Tag Line - MARKED BY FATE. DOOMED BY PROPHECY, TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR MANKIND.
Starring - CHRISTOPHER WALKEN, ELIAS KOTEAS (teenage mutant ninja turtles - the movie), VIRGINIA MADSEN (electric dreams) , VIGGO MORTENSEN (Lord of the rings)

AKA - GODS ARMY (Europe), GODS SECRET ARMY (Europe) , ANGELS AND DEMONS (Spain)
Thomas Duggett (Elias Koteas) is a failed Priest who had a bit of a breakdown when making his vows - a disjointed mash up of fallen angels and impaled bodies, quite gothic but disapointing in the lack of gore.
Duggett becomes a cop, as you do, priest to cop not a big move - both authority figures and positions of power. Dragged from the night shift he attends a murder scene where a copy of his priest school dissertation on angelic hosts is found.
During the police autospy it turns out the murder victim is no ordinary person... but an angel! Soon Christopher Walken appears on the scene like a demonic version of Johnny Cash and it soon transpires that he is also an angel, and that the police morgue contains his fallen comrade. The angels it seems are in the middle of a battle on earth to take control of heaven, as they are a bit miffed that God favours the "talking monkeys" instead of them!.
The police investigations take Duggett onto an Indian reseveration, where one of the good angels (Simon) hides the soul of a murdering bastard US Army General who carried out cannabilism during the vietnam war in the body of a native American girl and the scene is set for a biblical showdown.
Who will win the fight for heaven??
Walken takes an average film and, in his portrayal of the angel Gabriel, drags the film above normal good v evil horror fare. He is totally believable as the soft spoken, pasty faced and above all dispassionate killer.
The film also contains a early role for Viggo Mortensen as Lucifer who's a bit pissed off that Gabriel is trying to create a second hell.
Not a bad film in itself and an enjoyable if a little cliched. MY big moan is the editing is a bit haphazard leading me to believe the version i am watching has been edited down for running time purposes. It does seem a bit disjointed at times.
Gore - not a great deal but what there is is well done with no cgi - old fashioned effects - the best being angels tearing the hearts out of other angels (the only way to kill an angel - file that factoid away for future reference come the rapture).
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 beers
